There are books we choose to write.
And then there are books that seem to wait inside us until we finally have no choice but to let them out.
Black Heart: The Darkness That Remains is the latter.
Coming soon and available wherever books are sold, Black Heart: The Darkness That Remains is a gothic poetry collection born from grief, darkness, isolation, memory, inner conflict, and the terrible weight of surviving what cannot simply be forgotten.
This is not a collection about escaping the darkness.
It is about discovering what remains when the light no longer knows how to reach you.
When the Heart Turns Black
At the center of Black Heart is a narrator slowly transformed by everything he carries.
Loss becomes weight.
Betrayal becomes a wound that refuses to close.
Fear becomes a voice.
Loneliness becomes a presence.
Memory becomes a corridor with no visible exit.
And eventually, the soul that entered the darkness is no longer the same soul that emerges from it.
Throughout the collection, the Black Heart becomes more than a symbol. It becomes the vessel for everything the narrator can no longer carry as the person he once was—a heart forged from grief, hardened by survival, and chained to memories that refuse to die.
But the narrator does not walk through that darkness alone.
Five presences emerge from the shadows:
Arioch — watcher of thresholds, keeper of endings.
Malrek — the shadow abandonment leaves behind.
Veydrin — fear without a face, always pointing somewhere darker.
Sableth — the voice loneliness learned to speak through.
Orionis — the distant path toward a self that can no longer return.
They are demons. Symbols. Voices. Wounds given names.
Perhaps they are all of those things.
Perhaps they are none of them.
That question belongs to the reader.
A Descent Through the Black Heart

Black Heart: The Darkness That Remains unfolds as more than a series of individual poems. The collection follows a descent through interconnected stages of transformation—from the first fractures of the soul to the moment darkness becomes indistinguishable from identity.
The imagery grows with that descent.
Ravens watch from the silence.
Chains tighten around the soul.
Brown eyes burn into ember.
Ash falls across memories.
Storms remember what the mind wants to forget.
Phantom love reaches through empty rooms.
And somewhere beneath it all, the Black Heart continues to beat.
Fragments from The Book of Ash appear throughout the collection like passages recovered from some forgotten gothic scripture, chronicling the transformation while asking an unsettling question:
What happens when you fight the darkness for so long that you can no longer tell where the darkness ends and you begin?
This Is Not a Story About Being Saved
There is no simple victory waiting at the end of Black Heart.
There is no moment when sunlight suddenly breaks through and everything that came before becomes healed.
Some wounds leave scars.
Some memories stay.
Some ghosts refuse to leave the room.
And sometimes survival does not mean defeating the darkness.
Sometimes survival means learning how to carry it.
That became one of the most important truths behind this collection.
Near the end of the journey, the narrator reaches a place beyond anger, beyond bargaining, and almost beyond hope. The Black Heart has hardened. The chains remain. Arioch has become so deeply intertwined with the narrator that even their voices threaten to become indistinguishable.
The fight appears unwinnable.
And yet…
something remains.
Not salvation.
Not forgiveness.
Not even hope in the way we usually imagine it.
Just one trembling breath refusing to become the last.
Not yet.
Two words.
One breath.
One final piece of humanity buried beneath everything the darkness tried to claim.
And sometimes that is enough.
