NaPoWriMo Day 6 – Monday, More or Less

Monday comes whether we welcome it or not, but during NaPoWriMo, even the start of the workweek carries a different weight—something lighter, stranger, more willing to bend. Today’s prompt leans into that looseness, taking a cue from Louise Glück and the idea that truth in poetry isn’t always bound to fact, but to feeling. We’re asked to write casually, almost offhand, and let something impossible slip in—something dreamlike, something that shouldn’t make sense, but somehow does.

Here’s a small piece that follows that thread:

 Monday, More or Less

I was making coffee
when the crow on the counter
asked if I ever planned
to slow down.

I told him Mondays don’t allow it—
he laughed,
spilled a little shadow on the floor,
and flew out through the wall.
